On a sandy beach in Minami-Boso, Chiba, there is a rather unusual pier. It juts out 160 meters straight into Tokyo Bay with nothing around it. It was originally built in the Taisho era (1912-1926) for landing fish, but the fishing port was relocated about 50 years ago and the pier's role ended. Now it has become a hidden and popular spot. Some locals come here every day to walk their dogs, and a group of three visited on a farewell trip with a colleague who was leaving his workplace.
