Shimane's Izumo-taisha Shrine has long been known for its blessings for matchmaking. This year, the shrine will be relocated for the first time in 60 years, attracting more tourists than usual. The “Sunrise Izumo” overnight train from Tokyo to Izumo is fully booked in November, the month of “kamizai” (October on the lunar calendar), when the gods gather. People of the right age, men and women who are eagerly looking for marriage, and those who wish to break off bad marriages from work and make new good marriages spend the night together in the same car.
