But when Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, those superyachts soon became targets for an unprecedented set of sanctions coordinated by the US, EU, and UK authorities. Some yachts were seized or frozen, others tried to escape in a hurry, and some simply disappeared.
