Richter was O'Brien's sidekick on Late Night with Conan O'Brien from 1993 to 2000, before venturing out to star in Andy Richter Controls the Universe and Andy Barker, P.I., and then returning to join O'Brien as announcer for The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.
